Traditional practice of leaf litter harvesting and utilization by farmers in west-central Bhutan: Paving the way for sustainable management Thai Agricultural
Rekha Chhetri; Banyong Toomsan; Wanwipa Kaewpradit; Viriya Limpinuntana.
Forest is an important resource for the farmers in soil fertility management and crop production in Bhutan. The tradition of leaf litter harvesting from the forests has been in practice since time immemorial. However, the continuous leaf litter harvesting has raised concerns on the sustainability of the leaf litter forests (Sokshing). There is a paucity of information about harvesting practices, utilization and management of forests. Hence, the presentstudy was aimed at generating information on how farmers perceive, utilize and manage leaf litter forests. Data were collected from two sub-districts Nahi and Limbukha in west-central Bhutan involving a total of forty farmers, using questionnaires and semi-structured interviews, focus group discussions and...

Important input factors that affect root growth under field conditions have not been included in CSM-CROPGRO-Peanut model, resulting in poor simulation of some rooting traits. Hence, the objective of this study was to optimize root growth factors for obtaining the suitable value with particular genotypes and environments. Two root growth factors including 1) fraction partitioning to leaf (YLEAF) and 2) root growth factor in soil layers were adjusted. Root mean square error (RMSE) and index of agreement (d) that were the statistical agreement between observed data and simulated data were used for considering the best fit values of root growth factor. The statistical agreement between observed and simulated data of root dry weight and root length density...
